Free beta versions of Collins dictionaries (in English, French, German and Spanish) now online

Excellent news for linguists, translators and professionals interested in languages and communication...

In the last issue of the magazine The Linguist (Vol. 51, No/1, February/March 2012) published by the Charetered Institute of Linguists, it is mentioned that Collins, a pioneer in dictionary publishing since 1819, has just launched a free beta online version of its English language dictionary as well as bilingual dictionaries in French, German and Spanish. The http://www.collinsdictionary.com/ website went live on 2011-12-31 and is owned and operated by HarperCollins Publishers Limited. Its content is displayed for personal, non-commercial use only. The publisher has made this fully-searchable website free to any user who can browse the dictionaries and English thesaurus by letter or search for specific words.

This is a beta site which is used to explore potential new features for HarperCollins' online dictionaries. HarperCollins welcome feedback or enquires regarding the new free website. The use of this website simply constitutes acceptance of the terms of use described on: http://www.collinsdictionary.com/terms-and-conditions.

The free online dictionary now gives open access to 120,000 entries in English. It should rise to more than 200,000 soon.
